Impending Departure

I think that we may have contracted the travel bug. Only back at base for a week, we are well on now with our plans for going off again at the end of this week.

We are heading to Border country and plan to explore Hadrian’s Wall a little, with an overnight hotel stay at Battlesteads for a special meal (and a long soak in a bath.) We have planned a mix of Britstops, “wild” camping, 5-site certified spots, and full caravan sites. Metal Bridge, Hexham, Vindolanda, Kielder Forest, the Southern Upland Way, and Moffat all figure in the mix.

We may stay out for New Year but are allowing for the possibility of returning to base if we have had enough, or should the weather fail us. 

Walking boots and sandwiches are about the measure of it but I do have a treat planned for Mr Snail’s birthday on Saturday. We will stop at Kilnford Barns on Friday on our way out and there I shall pick up a rabbit. I shall slow-cook the rabbit with good things such as bacon and chestnuts, onions, carrots and sage and so on and perhaps a large slug of red wine. We shall pop it on to cook, then go off and visit the wall and walk a while… to come home to a hearty and delicious supper.
