What’s today, Tuesday? Hard to believe that just over a week ago we were in Portugal, and only then setting off for Spain. We have completed five legs now: Portimao-Monesterio, Monasterio-Canaveral, Canaveral-Tordesillas, Tordesillas-Burgos, and Burgos-Zarautz. That’s almost 1,300 Km. A great deal of driving, for us.

Today we covered 200 Km, through Green Spain. Unfortunately, the beautiful Basque Country was swaddled in low cloud. We had a little rain on our way but it was a mostly uneventful journey.

On arrival at Gran Camping Zarautz we found that not only is it very busy, but that much has changed. Possibly new ownership. The shop has been revamped again, and the restaurant is under yet another new management (the 4th since we started coming here) – only it’s now a bar and not a restaurant. No Menu del Dia now, which we had very much been looking forward to.

busy, busy, busy

We had to fend for ourselves and made up a Tapas-y meal of breaded prawns with allioli, and chorizo in cider, plus some bread and pickles etc.

Quite glad to be stopping only the one night, though it would have been good to do some laundry.

Tomorrow we have a shorter drive, to Dax, in France. We shall stay on the CCP there. It will be good to be back home.

After Dax we can return to our preferred mode of travel. With no appointments or schedules in the offing, we can bumble, dawdle, explore, and generally take things easy, moving on only when we want to and covering shorter distances per leg. It is going to be joyous.

Today is Day 588, if I have my calculations correct.

We would love to hear from you, please leave a reply
