A revisit, and it is always a joy. To be recognised even as we approach the door, is very flattering too. That is the kind of attention to detail that arises from Michelin restaurant training.

Fermento is owned and operated by a team of young Italians who wanted to escape the pressure of working in a starred environment. They bring all of their high level cooking, presentation, and service skills to this small establishment at the end of the world.

Named Fermento because of their commitment to good wine and fermented foods, the restaurant perhaps has a slight whiff of Noma detectable in the air. The dishes are on the small side, but larger than a Tapa or a mini serving from a Tasting Menu at many another restaurant.

Fermento’s Carta is quite short, and supports both Vegetarians and Vegans, as well as the more omnivorous diners. There are sufficient options available for them to offer a 6 course Tasting Menu, which is the option that we took. The Menu is currently €50, with an accompanying win flight available at €25. The wine list is focused on Portuguese wins and includes naturally fermented examples.

Fermento is certainly one of my Happy Places and we will continue to return whenever we can.

As we were eating, we read the leaflet on the table.

Guess where we are going tonight…
