A great find

A great find

We travelled on Wednesday from Megget Reservoir via Selkirk to the A1 near Bamburgh. The road from Moffat to Selkirk must surely be one of the best sections anywhere in the country and it afforded us stunning scenery despite it being a somewhat murky day.

We had chosen to wait for breakfast until we found somewhere en route and I had been promised “A burger van” which I can happily report that we failed to find. In fact we were almost into Selkirk when we saw a sign for The Waterwheel Restaurant, where we had good coffee and a bacon roll.

What a great discovery the Philiphaugh Estate was! We took full advantage and Nell had a good long walk along the Mill Lade and back through the woods by the river.

We did not spare time on this visit for the viewing centre

Sadly the Estate does not permit overnight parking. It would however make a fine Britstop or, even better, an excellent Certified Location or Site in the same manner as the Estate at Brahan has done. We can but hope.

I’m a sucker for a watermill
oh, and for a good door or window

and, speaking of Britstops, I may be shot for telling you that we slept at Sunnyhills Farm Shop (good) and Restaurant (excellent).
