Snail Tales

Those of us who already feeling depressed by the weather are going to feel a whole lot worse soon. We got up this morning to find camp electricity and water off. Glad that I wasn’t the one who stripped off in the cold shower block in the dark to find that the shower did no more than splutter! We burned precious gas to make our breakfast coffee. We have used far more gas on this trip than we did on our previous two. Hoping supplies hold out until we are back in France, otherwise matters take a complex turn. We hope to try the site restaurant today. Expectations are being kept low, in the hope of being agreeably surprised. If nothing else, it keeps the washing up down. On the matter of washing up, we are currently burning more gas to heat water in order to wash up in the van. The washup here is external, the weather is vile, the sinks don’t look inviting to begin with and last night were observed to be full of semi-feral kitties. Mr Snail enquired this morning “just how many kittens are we taking home with us this time?” I suggested a round half dozen 😉 If only we could. #wp #spain #cats #Dusty #rain

Landed in La Carlota just before the heavens opened, but the rain caught us on the way out of Mercadona – which was not the time to find that our trolley had locking wheels. The van having been too big to park in the car park, we were tucked in to a space across the road. Soaked to the skin after that and then going in to Reception on arrival here, we are now contemplating the rain pouring down the windscreen whilst we drink coffee and eat Stroopwafel (it’s that kind of day). Of course the restaurant here is closed today. I think somebody leaks our plans and warns these places that we are coming. So, it is a homemade Chorizo and Chickpea stew tonight. The Valdepeñas that we bought in Mercadona is out, in a vain attempt to warm it up. We passed by the Pata Negra winery in Valdepeñas on our way here today, so keeping things local 🙂 The wine BTW cost a princely 2€65. We had some last year and found it to be amazing VFM. Oh, and we finally bought a tit 😉 Dusty travelled very well today. Not a word of complaint. #wp #spain #weather #gastrovanners #gastrovanner #food
